Day 6

Kualoa Ranch... Last day today. Went to Kualoa Ranch and took a 90 minute open bus ride around the Ranch. Visited some film sets including Jurassic Park, Jumanji and Kong Skull Island. Got some great photos at the Ranch. After that we tried Manoa Falls again for a hike - it was open but it was raining and we were warned that it was muddy and slippery so we didn’t do it in the end. Had some very heavy rain during the night last night and got a text flash flood warning near our trip to the Ranch. Luckily it didn’t affect our day out. Actually saw a bit of sun today. Jurassic Park set. Helicopter crash set from Kong Skull Island. Gates to some secret new film.. we were told it will be called "Triple Frontier". View from the top... turtles and night view of Honolulu from our balcony.   Went out to IHOP again tonight for tea and experienced driving in peak hour traffic. Then came home to pack bags and get ready for going to the airport in the early hours of the morning. 4am start,

I really hope this one works after spending half an hour writing up yesterday’s events to have it not work. (Neville thinks it was his fault as he tried to save it in draft!) Wahiawa Botanic Gardens.... Anyway had a good day today. Started off at 9am at the Wahiawa Botanic Gardens. It is a lot smaller and is right in the middle of suburbia but you wouldn’t know it. It was really beautiful and had some really unusual trees and plants. Took some lovely photos. There were a handful of cars in the parking spot but I didn’t see anyone else in the gardens. The walk around was lovely and peaceful. Unfortunately we had to keep to the paths as all the other areas, like the creek bed walk, were closed off due to the rains. The main island had over 51 inches of rain due to Hurricane/Tropical storm Lane. Can’t even imagine what it would be like to have that much rain in such a short period of time. Mokuleia Beach... Went for a drive to the other end of the island and on the way found a nice little

Out and about waiting for tropical storm...  We decided to spend a good part of today (Saturday) driving around the island. Unfortunately all the sights that we stopped to see were still closed including the Botanical gardens. The gardens had a locked fence with a guard and loud speaker telling everyone to go away!! Even the lookouts driving along the coast were shut across with tape to stop cars entering. The only place we found open was the Pineapple Farm and that was packed out with tourists so we had a quick look then left. The scenery is lovely. Some of the houses have an incredible outlook. Don’t think you would ever tire of looking at this. Another family selfie. Glad it’s not peak hour.... Saturday afternoon and it was still pretty busy on the roads. The main highway into Honolulu was 10 lanes wide - 5 on each side. Occasionally got to 6 & 7 per side. Jurassic Park front gates.... again got photos from out front as it was closed. The place is called Kualoa Ranch and there i

Day 2 Hawaii

Empty shelves... Thought we would wake up this morning to a full blown hurricane but, according to the news, it was slowing down and now wouldn’t hit until 2pm. We decided to have breakfast and go out for a couple of hours before the hurricane arrived. We went back to Safeway to get a few non perishable items just in case the power went off and we couldn’t cook anything. The shelves were looking pretty bare in places. We went home for lunch, ready to stay home as we waited for the hurricane. Again it was delayed, so we decided to go out again to check out a few places that we wanted to visit, even though we couldn’t get into anything due to closures. Here we are outside the entrance to Pearl Harbour. Had a little walk around, couldn’t see much. The ships and submarine were only just visible in the background. There were half a dozen tourists doing the same thing. The place was closed and some areas sandbagged. I really wanted to do the submarine tour but now we will probably run out of
