Day 5

I really hope this one works after spending half an hour writing up yesterday’s events to have it not work. (Neville thinks it was his fault as he tried to save it in draft!)

Wahiawa Botanic Gardens....

Anyway had a good day today. Started off at 9am at the Wahiawa Botanic Gardens. It is a lot smaller and is right in the middle of suburbia but you wouldn’t know it. It was really beautiful and had some really unusual trees and plants. Took some lovely photos. There were a handful of cars in the parking spot but I didn’t see anyone else in the gardens. The walk around was lovely and peaceful. Unfortunately we had to keep to the paths as all the other areas, like the creek bed walk, were closed off due to the rains. The main island had over 51 inches of rain due to Hurricane/Tropical storm Lane. Can’t even imagine what it would be like to have that much rain in such a short period of time.

Mokuleia Beach...

Went for a drive to the other end of the island and on the way found a nice little sandy beach. Again hardly anyone there, not like Waikiki yesterday which was packed. On the way back we went into Pearl City to find some lunch. Finally found IHOP (a pancake place) where we ate out for the first time on this trip. I had a vegetable omelette which had broccoli, mushrooms, tomato and cheese, and it was truely the nicest omelette I’ve ever had.

The house....

The girls took some photos of the front of the house we are staying in. It is on a very steep hill and our part is over 4 levels. The entrance is on one level then down to the bedrooms, up to the kitchen and dining and then up again to the lounge. It has a large balcony area that overlooks the coast and Diamond Head. The house has more levels below and behind us which is were the owners live. Very interesting layout inside with curved stairways. Haven’t taken any inside shots yet but will do before we leave.

And finally some blue sky’s from our balcony.. Still have some after effects from what is now called Tropical Depression Lane. There are still areas that are closed and the skies have been cloudy and grey for most of the trip so far.  The blue started to peek through this afternoon.  One more day to go. Yes, that’s right, tomorrow (Tuesday), is our last full day in Hawaii. We have a couple of things planned for a full and busy day and then the task of packing.... then a 4am start home on Wednesday.
