Arrived in Hawaii ahead of Hurricane Lane

Had a good flight although the Flight was delayed for almost an hour at Sydney airport with a flat tyre.... had to strap in when they jacked up the plane to change the tyre.  They still arrived on time though which was good.  Arrived at 6.15am Thursday morning Hawaii time.  Got through customs by 7am which was good going, then picked up a rental car. Neville did a good job with his first go at driving on the wrong (right) side of the road. Lauren did a good job navigating with the sat nav. It is such an odd feeling driving opposite to what we are used to. I kept going through in my mind where to drive and got mixed up so many times, so I would be useless as the driver.

Drove around and stopped a few times at different places in Honolulu for most of the day as we couldn’t get into our house until 3pm, although we managed to get in around 1.30 which was good. Saw some huge fish At the Alamoana shopping center... Quite a few shops were closed, some sandbagged and the Microsoft store was being boarded up!!

Coralie and Lauren with the Cool Jeep Wrangler.... Nice car which we got as an upgrade because it was safer in the upcoming weather conditions.

Decided to have a quick look at Diamond Head to pass time while waiting to get into the house.  Found it closed by police in preparation for Hurricane Lanes arrival....

Saw this letterbox and thought it could be a good diy project for James to attempt....

Great View of Diamond Head Volcano from our balcony.. wont be able to go out on the balcony soon as the wind is now really starting to pick up.

.

Writing this and the island wide sirens have just gone off (4pm) and then got this emergency alert on the mobile. There is a Hurricane Lane live update channel on TV that we have have got on which is giving updates, warnings and listing all the emergency shelters. Apparently there are 300,000 tourists on the islands at the moment which is mind-boggling.
